In May 2013, my team of recyclers and soccer players (the Anaheim Impact Girls U13) collected our grand prize for our 2012 Recycle. Goal. program victory – a soccer skills clinic from the Los Angeles Galaxy. It was sponsored by the American Chemistry Council and delivered by MLS and USA National Team forward Clint Mathis, and Galaxy Camps coach Wes Meadows. During the event the girls spent the morning sharpening their soccer skills and running their tails off at the clinic. Even I had a chance to learn from Clint and Wes! After working up a big appetite, we all enjoyed lunch courtesy of program partner Buffalo Wild Wings.
Our experience as part of ACC’s Recycle. Goal. program has been very beneficial. By teaching our players to recycle, we’re instilling in these girls a sense of responsibility when it comes to keeping our fields, parks and neighborhoods free of litter. Furthermore, the girls are seeing immediate and tangible results from their efforts to recycle plastic and other materials, such as the value of recyclables when redeemed. In fact, like other teams that have participated before us in the Recycle. Goal. program, we’re now recycling throughout the year to generate money to help fund team expenses.
I’m happy to say that our Anaheim Impact Girls have committed to DOUBLING their recycling efforts in 2013, and I couldn’t be more proud. Thank you to Recycle. Goal., ACC and its partners for such a wonderful program. We can’t wait to start the 2013 competition this fall!
