Capitol Day 2013

On Wednesday, June 5, 2013, public and private partners gathered together at the State Capitol in Sacramento to celebrate the Plastics. Too Valuable to Waste. Recycle.™ campaign. Since the campaign began in 2007, the programs and partners across California have recycled more than 459 tons of materials, including 84 tons of plastics.

The open house showcased the amount of recyclable materials the program has diverted from the waste stream and highlighted a number of the partnerships that have helped make the program a success. During the event, attendees learned about a unique youth soccer recycling challenge called Recycle. Goal., saw furniture made from recycled plastic milk jugs, and played a recycling toss game.

Event attendees included state elected officials and their staff, regulatory and environmental organizations, campaign stakeholders and the general public. The event was sponsored by California State Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens).
