It was a pleasure to help announce the recent expansion of our recycling partnership with Caltrans, held at the Caltrans District headquarters in San Luis Obispo. In addition to the partner representatives, Colonel Barbara Nuisemer, the Commander of the National Guard Headquarters at Camp Roberts (the name sake of the Camp Roberts Rest Area), and staff from two San Luis Obispo County supervisors all joined us to show their support.

It was great for me to be able to hear, first-hand, from the representatives of the state agencies that we partner with, about how important these types of alliances are, especially in these tough economic times. These days, when it’s hard for the State to pull together the necessary resources to fully implement a recycling program on California’s highways, we’re glad to know that our involvement as an industry makes a difference at the local and regional levels. This event made it clear that all of us—both in the public and private sectors—are in this together to promote recycling and prevent litter in California.
This expansion brings more on-the-go recycling receptacles at highway rest stops in California through a partnership between ACC, Caltrans and Keep California Beautiful (KCB). We began with nine recycling bins along with educational signage at Caltrans’ H. Dana Bowers Rest Area and Vista Point, north of the Golden Gate Bridge, and now more bins and signage have homes at the Gaviota, Camp Roberts and Shandon rest areas in Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and Monterey Counties.
We’re happy to work alongside our partners to raise awareness about recycling, make recycling more accessible to all Californians, and educate our friends and colleagues in the state about the importance of recycling. We look forward to expanding this recycling partnership even further and bringing more bins to more locations throughout the state.
The following is a post from Keith Christman, Managing Director at the American Chemistry Council.
